Band Placement Auditions 2017-2018 School Year
This page contains all information concerning band class/chair placement auditions for 2017-2018 school year.
AUDITIONS ARE NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU CANNOT DO...BUT RATHER WHAT YOU CAN DO!!!
Current High School Students - Grades 9-11:
- You MUST have your audition uploaded by Friday, May 18 (11:59pm)
- Send files to Mr. Cantrell's Dropbox: http://www.dropitto.me/ccantrell NOTE: Password is EHHSBAND
- In the case this is IMPOSSIBLE, please work out an alternate time with Mr. Cantrell (you must do so before the due date!)
Performance Requirements:
- Major and Minor Scales - with metronome, as many as possible in 2 minutes (do not exceed 2 minutes).
- Chromatic Scale - un-timed. Full Range of the instrument (or more).
- Metronome Etude - with metronome, for rhythmic accuracy and dynamics.
- Etude: Students wishing to be in Concert Band will play the first half of the etude (Play to the Fermata). Students wishing to be in Symphonic Band or Wind Symphony must play the entire thing.
- PERCUSSION: Percussionist will play Scales (major and minor in under 2 minutes) and the Chromatic Scale, in addition to both the Mallet and Snare etudes.
Rising 9th Graders:
- You MUST have your audition uploaded by Tuesday, May 23 (11:59pm)

1. Clearly state your name at the beginning of the recording.
2. The recording must be one complete uninterrupted performance of each requirement. Do not stop and start over within a
recording. If you need to start over, restart the recording. Edited/pasted video will not be accepted.
3. All players: make sure that music stand is positioned so that it does not block or interfere with recording. Video recording must be
from the side at a 45 degree angle. Make sure the video shows clear view of your face and instrument playing position.
4. Wind Players: make sure fingerings are visible in the recording.
5. See Mr. Lonberger if you have any questions.
Performance Requirements:
- Scales: F Scale, B-flat Scale, E-flat Scale, A-flat Scale in the same manner of the All-State Band pattern (just like you've practiced!)
- Chromatic Scale - Play at least one-two octaves.
- Metronome Etude - with metronome, for rhythmic accuracy and dynamics.
